Has the New Hyundai Santa Fe / ix45 SUV been Caught with its Guard Down?

Pictures allegedly showing an undisguised prototype of the new generation of the Hyundai Santa Fe are making the internet rounds today (keep in mind the front fascia image was created by mirroring the right hand side photo).

The styling cues such as the six-point grille and exterior mirrors seem to match the camouflaged test cars we've spied over the past few months, though we're not sure if this is the South Korean market version or not.

Rhys Millen Turns the Veloster Rally Car into a Golf Cart

Have you ever wondered what it would feel like taking a high-powered vehicle for a spin on manicured grass found on golf courses? Of course you did.

Hyundai and its partner Rhys Millen Racing had the same question as well, only being who they are; they actually had the opportunity to find out.

In Rhys Millen's second recent short promotional film for Hyundai after the drift clip with the Genesis Coupe, the professional racing driver hopped in the Veloster Rally car and played around with it on the golf course. Mosey on past the break to watch the video

Spy Shots: Hyundai i20 Facelift to get the i40 Styling Touch

It's only been on the market for three years but Hyundai is already prepping the i20 supermini for a facelift, the first since its introduction at the Paris Motor Show in 2008.

Our man with the long lens spotted a prototype model during winter testing in Europe wearing heavy camouflage around the front and rear ends as well as the door panels.

New Survey Shows which Owners Would Buy from the Same Brand Again

Brand loyalty among customers is something all carmakers aspire to achieve, but sometimes that's easier said than done as proved by the results of J.D. Power and Associates' 2012 Customer Retention Study.

There's a lot to say about the survey that measures the rate at which automotive brands retain their existing customers and which is now in its ninth year, but we can't help but to start from the winner.

Amazingly, the brand that manages to keep most customers is Hyundai with a retention rate of 64%. The South Korean brand's feat is even more impressive if you consider that just two years ago it ranked below average with 47%!

Is the 2013 Dodge Dart Sedan Using an Automatic Transmission Supplied from Hyundai?

It's no secret that, aside from the Fiat Group-sourced 168bhp 1.4-liter turbocharged MultiAir engine, the new 2013 Dodge Dart compact sedan continues to use two powerplants from Chrysler's past.

You see, while the Detroit maker is marketing its 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter four-cylinder units under the new "Tigershark" moniker, both have their roots in the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance (GEMA) family of engines.

To explain, GEMA was a joint venture of the Chrysler Group, Mitsubishi Motors, and Hyundai Motor Company for the development of a line of shared four-cylinder gasoline engines. In 2009, Chrysler bought out the shares of Mitsubishi and Hyundai and continued GEMA on its own.

And here's where Hyundai comes into the picture. Citing unnamed sources, Car&Driver is reporting that the 2013 Dodge Dart's Tigershark engines are fitted with a Hyundai-supplied 6-speed automatic transmission.

New Hyundai Veloster Turbo Debuts on Forza Motorsport 4

It's a bit too early for anyone to get behind the wheel of Hyundai’s 2013 Veloster Turbo as the U.S. version was only just revealed last week at the Detroit Motor Show and isn’t scheduled to go on sale until next summer.

However, there is a way to experience the Veloster Turbo, not in the flesh but in the virtual world of the XBox 360 Forza Motorsport 4 racing game. If you own Microsoft’s gaming console, all you have to do is download the free Hyundai Veloster Bonus Pack on XBox Live.

2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec

The 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec.

Let's settle one thing right now. This is not the car that will keep Ford's Mustang up all night, shivering from fear in its corral. If, in the early days of the Genesis Coupe, that was true, the rapid development of the 'Stang into a performer in 6-cylinder guise and an outright muscle car with the V8 has moved the target.

So let's assess the Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec for what it is. A smartly styled, aggressive Asian sport coupe. The Toyota Supra of our time perhaps....for our time's equivalent of Celica GT money.

The 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec rear view.

That's the first big suprise about the Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec...what you get for your money. The manual transmission version, like our tester, starts at $26,750. For that you get the body you see above and a 300 horsepower 3.8 liter V6 under the hood.  It handles well, too, applying that power to the pavement through the rear wheels and benefitting from a 5-link independent rear suspension, a track suspension and strut brace, 19-inch wheels with summer tires and Brembo brakes, plus a Torsen limited-slip differential...and it comes with electronic stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution with brake assist and a full complement of airbags and active front head restraints. Standard.

The six-speed manual? The slickest this side of Honda (nice lesson learned on Hyundai's part).

The 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec interior.

Slide inside and you'll find black leather bolster/red cloth seats (in ours) and lumbar support for the driver, air conditioning with outside temperature display, keyless entry and alarm, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a multi-information display, power windows, locks and mirrors, an AM/FM/XM/CD/mp3 audio system with an iPod/USB/Auxiliary connection and steering wheel audio controls, Bluetooth and fog lights.

Oh, yeah. And a full tank of gas. And you haven't added a single option. The tab is still at $26,750. All they could find to add to ours was carpeted floor mats ($105), a cargo net ($50) and an iPod cable ($35). From the looks of the window sticker, freight and handling was thrown in free, so the total price rings up at $26,940. A remarkable bargain. Especially when you remember this is a Hyundai, which means you get a 5 year/60,000 mile new vehicle warranty, a 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty, a 7 year/unlimited mile anti-perforation warranty, and 5 years/unlimited mile roadside assistance.

It's a ball to drive, a definite attention getter and an absolute screaming bargain.

Maybe Mustang ought to sweat just a bit.

2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec

Base price: $26,750.

As tested: $26,940.

Likes: Styling, handling, manual shifter.

Dislikes: Not seeing more in traffic.

EPA estimate: 17 mpg city/26 mpg highway.

2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Makes its U.S. Debut, gets 348HP V6 and 274HP 2.0L Turbo [Videos]

It may be one of the lesser exciting premieres of the 2012 Detroit Auto Show from a readers' perspective as the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe was officially revealed in its home market last November, but that doesn't mean it's not important from a buyer's point of view.

The mid-life facelift brings several significant updates for the Genesis Coupe including new powertrains and transmissions.

Starting with the four-cylinder model, the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine gains a more precise twin-scroll turbocharger and larger intercooler boosting output to 274 horsepower and 275 lb.-ft. of peak torque on premium fuel, or 260-horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 260 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,000 rpm using regular fuel.

New Hyundai Veloster Turbo with 201HP Eyes the VW Golf GTI and Mini Cooper S [38 Photos + Video]

Well, as they say, better late than never: the turbocharged version of Hyundai’s Veloster coupe was officially unveiled today at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show.

The South Korean maker has set the bar pretty high with the 2013 Veloster Turbo aiming at the likes of the Volkswagen Golf GTI (given the absence of the Scirocco in the States) and the Mini Cooper S.

Under its sculpted bonnet lies a new 1.6-liter direct-injection gasoline engine with a twin scroll turbocharger that churns out 201HP at 6,000 rpm and 195 lb-ft (264Nm) of torque from 1,750-4,500 rpm in North American specification. That's a healthy 63HP increase over the regular Veloster.

There's also a new engine manifold and a different exhaust system with two free flowing circular tailpipes that promise to give the engine a more aggressive sound.

2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo Photos on the Loose

There's no end to the automotive leaks today with the latest victim of "someone, somewhere did it, but it wasn't me" being the 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo, photos of which "somehow" made it online several hours ahead of its world premiere at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

We were the first to bring you the low down on Hyundai's 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline unit in the beginning of 2011, while the South Korean automaker officially revealed details on the engine last October.

Big Deal Video of the Day: Hyundai Teases 2013 Genesis Coupe

Erroneously, Hyundai thinks American consumers have no idea what's going on in the rest of the (automotive) world. We beg to differ even though some may seem eager to play along with Hyundai's meaningless teasing game…

"Take a sneak peak of the 2013 Genesis Coupe being introduced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, MI on January 9th 2012. We're very excited to share with you this sneak peak, check back next week for the full video and more footage," says Hyundai on its YouTube channel.

This is What Happens when You Lose a Wheel on the Highway

There is a multitude of reasons to as to why a wheel can come off your vehicle but whatever the explanation; the outcome can be extremely dangerous for not only the driver and passengers, but also other vehicles on the road, especially if it happens on a freeway/highway.

This driver of what appears to be a Hyundai Galloper, which is a rebadged version of the Mitsubishi Pajero 5d built by the Korean maker from 1991 until the early 2000s, lost his rear, right wheel while trying to overtake a car and a truck.

The large SUV almost tipped over, but fortunately, the incident ended without a crash. You can watch it as it happens in the video below.

Hyundai Debuts Hexa Space HND-7 Concept at New Delhi Auto Show

Hyundai is leaving no stone unturned in promoting its brand across the world and with India's car market on the high boom, the South Korean automaker couldn’t be absent from this week's Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi where it rolled out a new concept model named the Hexa Space.

The concept features Hyundai’s “Fluidic Sculpture” design language, though we can't see the exterior winning any beauty contests, and that's probably an understatement…

Polk Estimates Global Vehicle Sales to Reach 77.7 Million Units in 2012, and 96.3 Million in 2016

The analyst gurus at R. L. Polk & Co have issued a new forecast for global vehicle sales in 2012. The automotive market intelligence firm predicts that sales are expected to rise 6.7 percent over 2011 volumes to 77.7 million vehicles, thanks to the global economy riding out the European debt crisis and consumers returning to showrooms.

However, this does not mean that the European car market will recover. On the contrary, Polk estimates that Europe will be the only region where sales will be flat or slightly down to just over 19 million units due to the tight financial plans enforced by most governments.

Hyundai and Kia to Invest US$12.2 Billion in 2012, Aim for 7 Million Sales

Hyundai Motor Group, the owner of both the Hyundai and Kia brands and the fifth largest automaker in the world, announced that it will invest US$12.2 billion this year in research and development (R&D) as well as on improving its facilities.

The South Korean group announced last October that their target for 2012 was 7 million units, up from 6.5 million in 2011. Despite the economic crisis, both brands have performed excellently. They also estimate that their growth could have been even larger had it not been limited by their plants’ output, many of which are operating at or near their maximum capacity.
